Gobble-Gobble one and all. November has arrived and with it, turkey and Black Friday! Not to mention, the latest installment of Transformers: REANIMATED, Issue 52: The Shrikebats of Dromedon.
This month’s cover is brought to life for us by George Vega and features the intimidating fan-favorite Strauxs, overlooking Darkmount as Shrikebats fly off in the background. Truly a frightening scene to be sure, and one that Mr. Vega expertly crafted for us all to enjoy.
So grab a turkey leg, scoop up some mashed potatoes, and help yourself to this Smelting Pool sized story by downloading it for free.
On his crusade to obtain the Autobot Matrix of Leadership, Skyquake and his regulators travel to the planet of Dromedon, home of the mighty fortress of Darkmount and within, its steward, Straxus. But Dromedon is home to yet one more fearsome species: Shrikebats. Will Skyquake’s raw determination be all the Deception needs to conquer the Shrikebats and take the Matrix of Leadership from Straxus? Or will the unexpected arrival of Kup throw a wrench in Skyquake’s plans? To find out, you’ll have to download this month’s free issue.
I first met George Vega at Emerald City Comic Con 2023. He had a booth in Artist Alley and he was showing me some of his Transformers artwork. It was clear to me that Mr. Vega was not only a fan of Transformers, but he loved drawing them too. Mr. Vega has worked with both Marvel and DC and I was impressed with what I saw at his booth. I started to tell him about the Transformers: REANIMATED comic, and he immediately and enthusiastically wanted to be a part of it.
We stayed in touch after the Seattle convention and in July, Greig and I asked Mr. Vega if he would do the cover for today’s issue. He agreed and we sent him our ideas. Mr. Vega came back at us with his own idea, one that homaged Batman #608 by Jim Lee.
Over the next few months, Mr. Vega went to work on our cover, chipping away at it piece-by-piece and providing us with amazing visual updates along the way. Finally, we can show it off and Greig and I are so pleased with the results that we hope to have Mr. Vega back to do another cover for us soon.
Written by Greig Tansley from the Unfunny Nerd Tangent podcast and Youseph (Yoshi) Tanha from the YoshiCast, this G1 adventure follows in the Transformers: ReAnimated tradition of bridging the gap between the cartoon’s second season and the 1986 Movie that defined the childhood of millions.
So, if you *did* like issue 52: The Shrikebats of Dromedon, then please consider contacting SKYBOUND Entertainment (Via E-mail or Twitter) and let them know you would have liked to see Transformers: REANIMATED as an ongoing comic book series written by Yoshi and Greig.
